Engineering Management 101

In the software engineering field, the quality of your manager makes a world of difference. A great manager will earn your trust, inspire you, champion your growth, provide constructive, actionable feedback, and put you in the best position to succeed.

A poor manager will criticize you when things go wrong, run chaotic sprints, leave you uninformed on how important decisions are made, and put their welfare before yours.

I’ve launched a newsletter to share stories about engineering management. I’ll cover topics like how to run an effective 1 on 1 meeting, how to handle poor performers, how to manage fully remote and global teams, and how to manage your time, among many others. I’ll also share anecdotes about my personal experiences as an engineering leader.

Check out the first story below, and if you enjoy the content, please subscribe! I’ll try to get one or two short stories a week into your inbox.
